KAYLA JANE (KJ) BARRIE, PTP in training, Ontario, Canada
My life has always been filled with countless hours of reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I found poetry that I unearthed myself.
Poetry has guided me from a place of fear and destruction to a place where I can value my voice and help others on their journey to find theirs. I value writing as an act of planting individual seeds of self-expression to create a vibrant garden of our unique stories and experiences.
My background in journalism has inspired me to question internal and external systems – poetry creates an outlet to explore those curiosities. It can help us heal our individual experiences and collective traumas, guiding us to find freedom in the stories and pain we carry inside.
I want to support folks to connect inward and share their stories, hopes, and fears of the past, present, and future. I want to remove the barriers in our systems that keep poetry and writing from those who need it to heal, regardless of their life experience.
As part of my PTP training, I offer online workshops and in-person events across southern Ontario. There are individual and group sessions available.
By providing a creative and compassionate environment for folks to explore their experiences and emotions, we can bring a piece of freedom of expression and guide others to use their words as a voice for change. I believe that poetry heals because it reminds us that we are living.
