VENUS LUKIC MA, PTP in training, TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA
Employing the containing structure of a poetry therapy session and using poetry as a catalyst for creative exploration of feelings and experiences is an engaging way to interact with others. I employ a deeply empathetic lens in my work with all types of clients and find satisfaction in engaging others to find poetry and creative language in their self and other exploration as a peer group facilitator and creative arts therapist.
Having a response to poetry, one way or another, is a natural inclination. Crafting an impulsive response in brief text can be surprising, satisfying and feel very vulnerable. I was drawn to poetry workshops myself as I found them to be relaxing, rejuvenating and insightful. I wanted to share this experience with others and so I started attending conferences and workshops and then began formally training as a PTP- Poetry Therapy Practitioner in 2023. Poetry Therapy is also complimentary with Drama Therapy and can be used within the sessions seamlessly. I have used Poetry with individual clients and with groups. I have experience using Poetry Therapy in my creative and therapeutic work with adults and teens.
