SANDIE DAY, PTP in Training,
NORTH YORKSHIRE, UK
I am a writer. My first novel IS THIS IT? will be published shortly. The narrative explores themes of identity, wellbeing and change – both individual and social. I achieved a Master of Fine Arts with merit for this work alongside a critical commentary of the book. While studying for this degree I decided I wanted to use my writing for wellbeing. This desire led me to the International Academy for Poetry Therapy. I am so pleased to be studying on the Poetry Therapy Practitioner training programme, and am now writing my own poetry too.
For over forty years I have had a deep interest in different approaches to health and wellbeing. My approach to wellbeing is based on an integrative model as I believe dis-ease in the mind and body is a combination of many different factors. Therefore, the studies I have embarked upon, a BA and MA in Social Anthropology, Tai Chi and Chi Kung training, Shiatsu, Oriental Medicine and flower essences all reflect this interest. I am also well-versed in homeopathy which I have used for the past forty-seven years for family and friends.
While studying I have cared for my ever-increasing family, six children and now thirteen grandchildren. Living in a rural environment has allowed me to be close to nature, which I love. I am interested in my personal development as I constantly learn new skills and insights on my life journey.
